Ngala Tented Camp is situated in the &Beyond Ngala Private Game Reserve, which shares an unfenced boundary with the renowned Kruger National Park – South Africa’s largest wildlife sanctuary and one of the biggest game reserves in the world.
While guests never forget that they are in the wild, there is nothing primitive about this chic and contemporary camp.
The romance of canvas, with big night sounds and flickering lanterns lighting the grounds, mingles with the simple sophistication of polished wooden decks, textured fabrics and clean lines.
From dedicated commitment to a conservation model, down to the tiniest details of daily activities, every decision revolves around &Beyond’s core ethics; Care of the Land, Care of the Wildlife, and Care of the People. These values have become part of the reason why guests find their experience so rewarding.
Ngala is a true safari experience where guests go to bed to the sounds of lion calling, safely cosseted in modern tented suites and pampered with the warm hearted service that embodies the soul of Africa.

Peering out onto the banks of the seasonal Timbavati River from the shelter of dense indigenous trees, nine tented suites offer a spacious and tranquil escape.
Mounted on raised platforms, each tented suite is cleverly designed to blend into the riverside trees, minimizing impact on the environment. Mature indigenous shade trees form a luxuriantly cool canopy overhead. The overall essence is African with warm, earthy tones throughout.

- Large gauze screen windows that open up to the outside
Caught between the dense riverine forest and the sandy bed of the Timbavati, extensive viewing decks give guests a front row vantage point of game wandering down to drink. A rim flow pool mimics the contours of the riverbed, while plush loungers are custom made for lazy afternoons. At night, when tales of the day’s adventure need to be shared, a roaring fireplace springs to life.

The food at Ngala is as individual and inventive as the camp itself and guests are treated to the stirring scents of Africa’s famous spices. While hearty breakfasts and gorgeous lunch platters are savoured on the viewing decks, the theatrical al fresco dinners in the dry riverbed are unforgettable.
&Beyond Ngala was the first private game reserve to be incorporated into the Kruger National Park and has exclusive traversing rights over 14 700 hectares of game-rich savannah. With its name meaning ‘lion’ in Shangaan language, Ngala lives up to its promise, supporting several large prides of these powerful cats, as well as breeding herds of elephant, leopard, spotted hyena, giraffe, large buffalo herds and white rhino. African wild dog can also be spotted moving through the reserve.
The reserve offers an intimate African wildlife experience, with game drives led by expert ranger and tracker teams. Sensitive off-roading practices allow close-up game sightings, while walking safaris and bush walks are also offered.

- Bush Walks

Conservation & Community
Taking less and giving more is a philosophy that is applied every day through actions big and small at each of &Beyond’s 33 lodges. Whether it’s participating in the reintroduction of an endangered species like the black rhino, providing a market for local businesses to encourage enterprise development, or simply managing compost from the kitchen, these are the conscious commitments that will leave a positive legacy.
