Simbavati River Lodge

Simbavati River Lodge 2017-11-02T13:21:27+00:00

Project Description

Situated in the heart of the renowned Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park, the 4-Star Simbavati River Lodge rests on the banks of the Nhlaralumi River. This intimate, family-friendly lodge is shaded by old Jackalberry and Leadwood trees, yet exudes warmth with its contemporary design. Guests find their comfortable home-away-from-home in either luxury tents or comfortable thatched chalets.

Simbavati takes its name from the local Shangaan language, translated as “the place where the lions come down from the stars”. While the focus here is on “Big Five” game viewing and breathtaking views, the staff expertly creates an environment where guests are made to feel supremely relaxed from the moment they arrive.

You are invited to immerse yourself in 12,000 hectares of rich wilderness and experience pure South Africa in all its glory.

Activities

There are no fences between the Timbavati and the Kruger National Park, which allows for the free movement of the animals within more than 20,000 square kilometers of wilderness. As such, the lodge offers game activities that take advantage of the time of day when animals are most active. Nocturnal creatures – including the big cats – are regular sightings at night. Currently over 40 mammal species are listed as resident in the Timbavati, including the “Big Five” – lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant, as well as the endangered wild dog and cheetah. There is also an abundance of birdlife to be sighted.

  • Early morning game drive
  • Afternoon/evening game drive, which includes a sundowner break
  • Prearranged evening bush walk
  • Children are catered for with an activity plan to increase their wildlife knowledge and there is a large selection of interesting books at their disposal.

Photographic Safaris

Unmatched in the wildlife photographic industry is Simbavati’s specialized photographic game drive vehicle. A professional photographer will ensure that you benefit from one-on-one instruction on everything from how to achieve the best position for the ultimate wildlife shot to professional tips on image editing.

These signature safaris have set departure dates so please enquire and note that you can bring your own equipment, but some items are available for hire at the lodge.
